The Oakland University Police Department provides free car seat inspections to community members throughout the area. Your inspection will be conducted by a Child Passenger Safety Technician certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
An alarming three out of every four car seats are incorrectly installed according to NHTSA. OU Police wants to help ensure the safety of those that are most vulnerable. To assist in changing these statistics, please consider arranging an appointment for a car seat check today.
Each inspection will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The Child Passenger Safety Technician will help you check the car seat, review installation instructions, as well as help you practice installing and uninstalling your specific car seat. Upon leaving, the parent or caretaker will have the necessary knowledge to properly install, check, and uninstall their car seat with confidence.
Bring the following items to your inspection:
- Vehicle Owner’s Manual
- Car Seat
- Car Seat Manual
- Car Seat Registration Card
Asking questions during the inspection is encouraged. This is about you and the safety of your child and if there is anything we may do to assist in this process, we are happy to assist you.
