Oakland University’s landline telephone network is currently unable to receive calls originating from outside the network or to connect calls being made from campus phones to numbers outside the network. Calls placed within the University network are not affected.
The problem is tied to a nationwide service interruption caused by a fiberoptic cable cut in the Chicago area. At this time, the University’s telephone network service provider is unable to provide an estimated time for restoration of service.
In the event of an emergency requiring police response, campus community members are advised to dial ext. 3331 from a campus landline phone to reach the Oakland University Police Department. Callers can also dial 911 from a cell phone, but such calls will be routed to a non-OUPD dispatch center.
Until landline network service is restored, callers outside the University network attempting to contact University employees or departments are encouraged to use email as an alternative. Contact information is available on department web sections and via the University’s online directory.
Additional information regarding the service outage will be posted here as it becomes available.
